About your last question:

If you look at the left hand side there is a Directory, click on it and you can see all the LISTED actresses. The important keyword there was "listed", because there are many many of them are unlisted or don't have names so in general we end up in a vacuum of unknown titles + actresses.

The way javlibrary work is (i assume) they're scraping data from a couple big japanese websites that sell porn for example like http://www.dmm.co.jp/digital/ and they make automatic entry out of them. They use some sort of bot to ID and gather screenshot, cover, google translated names, tag, release date etc.

But it is always not enough information even coming from the jap websites, so us users can add and correct information like actress name and download link into an entry to make it easier to find and share movies

For example, a lot movies that feature multiple girls and from lesser known studios are more likely to missing out the actress names, and we can correct that. Not to mention a lot of studio code is completely not available on javlibrary, because they are small studio and don't have their title listed on the big japs websites.
 
So it goes back to the question is it possible to know the number? Yes it is possible technically speaking, but it gonna take a lot of time and the effort is probably won't worth it and the number will not be 100% accurate, best you can hope for is some estimated number out of it

The censorship happened due to a very very outdated law that started in 1907
in the Meiji Restoration aka Meiji Period in which the government heavily censored a lot of stuff after having contact with foreign countries

One of the thing that got censored is of course indecent material which included pornography and the law stay until today

funny enough the edo period which happened b4 meiji "porno" was pretty common and totally uncensored for all often under the form of Ukiyo-e painting, even depicting sex with animal and foreign nationals

Finally the question about availability, of course common sense tell us all the porn start with filming uncensored and went through a censorship process in order to sell in japan.

the uncensored you can find are either filmed outside of japan, made in japan but only to be sold legally outside of japan, or the website and company themselves operating entirely outside of japan. There are of course instant of video leaking before the censorship process or company going bankrupt and uncensored copies leaking out but they are quite rare

In a way the censorship is somehow a part of the culture as well, and people attitude toward it is vary. Of course nobody want censorship but having watch quite a number of uncensored production compared to the censored one, a lot of the uncensored titles imo are just really lazy and uninspiring. A lot of the censored ones imo have better drawn by having better setting, niche, fetish and camerawork to get over the fact that they can't just focus on the genitals. Not to mention some actresses somehow like the censor idea and won't work for uncensored (weird i know). At the end of the day it is of course ideal to have all the best quality of the censored movies + uncensorship but i wouldn't hold my breath for it

oh boy this topic is a huge one

first i recommend you read some wiki article about JAV:

The number of titles could be up to hundred of thousands of not millions
Actresses also in ten to hundred of thousand of people, BUT most are small time aka they only do a couple quick ones for money and never star again.

And then you get the actual pornstars and veterans who has hundreds of titles under their name and career spanning over decade.

Most actresses often start young so they can get some quick bucks doing a couple of movies, and because of the large volume of titles and actress coming in everyyear the chance of somebody recognize you is very slim. But the thing about JAV is the diversity in term of choices so you have barely legal looking (not really recommend), late teenagers (18-19), early 20, 30s and even up to the mature age of 40-50.

About their activity, for the famous ones that stuck with the industry they are pretty much do porn, photoshoot or massage parlor in japan; some lucky one can actually break through and go past just being a porn star and get to mainstream media, some also belong to musical group and doing low rate movies, some have money from the industry to actually have their own business. But for the most part the majority just do it for a short term and quit to live a normal life.

It's not an easy world to get in and stay long or to understand, most of the time ppl just appreciate them for who they are. I hope this long post can answer some of your questions.

now a couple tips for a newbie who want to get into JAV:

-first you need to learn how to read code,  (ex: GVG-001) it is by fast the easiest one to keep track of video titles and recognize the studios behind it
-find yourself a favorite actress : face, body type, etc
-then find studio or even a director (most people don't think about this but a bad director can ruin even your favorite actress title)
-then you find you fav sex act, scenario (which usually tied to the studio and director)

the advanced search gonna be your friend when you get used to the scene. as for free movies, never expect every titles to be uploaded and never expect them to last forever, if you want something and it is up you better grab it asap

Seconded this, it has been a nuisance recently with so many new titles keep popping up and then it turn out to be fake links.

The way i see, it would be great if admin can implement some features that will delete posts if enough people down voted it. Because to be quite honest the upvote and downvote system (for useful and not useful post) is not really doing anything so many people don't even bother to use them. And if a user get enough amount number of posts deleted, they system should just ban/delete his account automatically too.

Let say if a post get downvoted 10 times, it will be deleted. And if a user got 100 posts deleted (equivalent of being downvoted 1000 times, not counting posts that won't get to -10 to be deleted) then the accounts should be banned.

One huge down side about this is some spammers might abuse this and create accounts to downvoted legit posters and ruin them. But i guess we can counter this by encourage people upvote the legit posts that actually posting legit links.

I'm not very knowledgeable about programming so I can't tell how easy or hard this is to do, this is just my quick idea and option on how to deal with these spammers. Ultimately I think there is good potential for the upvote and downvote system to help dealing with this matter, and thanks for reading.
